General Info

Generous and warm province, Guanacaste is well-known for its cattle production and spectacular beaches. It is the driest region of Costa Rica, specially in its coastal zones.

Guanacaste happened to form part of Costa Rica in 1824; until then it was a province assigned to the General Captanía of Guatemala. This territory has very important natural and cultural wealth for the economy of Costa Rica.Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Some of the best beach hotels of the world are located in the Guanacaste beaches. Guanacaste is well-known for its beaches and sun, and that is exactly what the visitors find throughout the coastal line, where the hotels, cabins and restaurants are located; some luxurious ones, others more modest, but they all guarantee the visitor a perfect option for each budget.

Panama beach, in the north of the province, is one of the best options for tourism. A placid white sand site and calm waters, that invite you to spend a weekend without preoccupations.

Coco Beach is located between the most popular places and known for its nocturnal life and great amount of visitors. Without traveling a long way you will reach Flamingo beach, an ideal site for those who like the mixture of hotels with class and a calm atmosphere. You may also visit the beaches of Ocotal and Hermosa, two of  the most popular ones at the coast.

Playa Grande is located in the south and along with the Baulas National Park, it is the sanctuary for thousands of  Baula turtles that come to these coasts every year to lay their eggs.

Tamarindo offers many white sandy beaches and manglares, where sea birds and iguanas live. Therefore it seems a paradise and a perfect place for those who wish to live in harmony with the nature. Many other beaches throughout the Guanacaste coast complete a matchless natural supply.

Beach Carillo, Beach Ostional, Manzanillo or Coyote are some of the destinations that make the biggest Costa Rica province one of the most beautiful places of the country.

In Guanacaste you can try delicious meals, very specific to this region, whose traditions became authentic Costarican traditions. The Santa Rosa National Park is located to the north of the province and is a tropical forest  jewel with extraordinary biological resources.
In the Guanacaste mountain range, you can see the volcanoes of Tenorio, Orosi, Miravalles and the Rincón de la Vieja, this last one is surrounded by a National Park with the same name. Without a doubt, Guanacaste is a privileged area.

It has a mixture of dry and rain forest, warm beaches, vast plains and an impressive volcanic mountain range; a natural world ready to be explored.
